University of Sheffield student sees success at Yorkshire Student Television Awards

Written Experiment IconCongratulations to University of Sheffield student Catarina Beija for her success at the Yorkshire Student Television Awards last week.

Catarina won in the News category for her piece, ‘Portuguese Bullfighting: a dying tradition?’

The jury said there was superb scripting in the film right from the start. They felt it included a confident piece to camera, had good access, and showed really strong craft skills.

She also received craft awards for camerawork and editing.

Chair of the Yorkshire Centre, Dr Fiona Thompson, said: “We are delighted with this year’s entries, both for their number and their quality.

“Our thanks go to the students, to our fantastic judges, and to Sheffield Hallam University and The University of Sheffield for sponsoring the event.”

Her tutor Lynn Dixon from the journalism department collected her award at the event, which took place at the Platinum Suite at Sheffield United Football Club last Wednesday.

The Royal Television Society (RTS) Yorkshire Centre holds annual student awards to recognise student creations. Prizes were also given in five other categories: Animation, Factual, Comedy & Entertainment, Drama and Short Feature.
