Teaching Excellence Framework: Year four statement of findings for The University of Sheffield

The University of Sheffield has been awarded Silver in the Year 4 Teaching and Excellence Framework (TEF) award. Our silver award is a demonstration that the University is delivering high quality teaching, learning and outcomes and consistently exceeding rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education. This award is valid for up to two years.

The University metrics, supplemented by the submission, indicate that our students achieve excellent outcomes. Levels of student satisfaction with teaching on their course, assessment and feedback and academic support are all consistent with our benchmarks for all students. The University has high rates of full-time student continuation and it is above its benchmark for progression to highly skilled employment or further study.

The Panel considered all the information in the provider submission in relation to the TEF criteria and its judgement reflects in particular, evidence of:

  • Excellent outcomes for all which include high quality personalised provision offered to students through the provider’s outward facing ethos
  • Excellent learner support through the extensive provision of study skills support which contributes to high levels of retention and attainment
  • Investment in high quality physical and digital resources, which have been recognised and praised by students
  • Course design and assessment practices providing high levels of stretch and challenge, in order to develop skills that are valued highly by employers offering graduate positions.
