What to do when you get your exam results

If you have accepted a Conditional offer of a place at the University of Sheffield, we will need to be informed of your exam results.

  • If you are taking A Levels, Scottish Highers, Irish Leaving Certificates or most BTECs:

UCAS will supply universities with these results automatically. UCAS will also supply universities with International Baccalaureate results if you have given permission for your results to be shared with UCAS.

We will then assess your results to establish whether or not you have met the conditions of our offer. You will not need to give us any additional information, unless our offer requires you to achieve specific results in other qualifications, such as GCSEs or English language qualifications.

  • If you are taking other exams:

Where UCAS do not provide us with your results, you will need to inform us of these yourself. You can do this by emailing scanned copies of your certificates/transcripts:

Alternatively you can post copies of your certificates or transcripts to: Admissions Team – [please indicate your course, eg Maths, and UCAS ID number], Admissions Service, The University of Sheffield, Level 2, Arts Tower, Western Bank, Sheffield S10 2TN, UNITED KINGDOM. The copies of your certificates or transcripts should be official copies, stamped by your school or college as a true copy of the original. Please do not post any original documents.

If written in a language other than English, the certificates/transcripts should be accompanied by an authenticated translation.

Please note that we will need to see the original documents when you come to Sheffield, in order to complete the formal registration process.

If you are unsure whether or not UCAS will supply us with your results, please check this with your school or college.

Please note that our offer of a place is based on the qualifications information you supplied as part of your UCAS application. If this information has changed (for example if you did not take one of the A Level subjects listed on your UCAS form, or you have taken a new AS or A Level, such as an AS or A Level in General Studies), please let us know as soon as possible, and no later than Wednesday 9 August 2017. This is very important, because we may not be able to take account of any grades you achieve in qualifications that we were not previously aware of, and we may not be able to confirm your place if you did not take all of the qualifications required by your offer.

Please also note that we must have received confirmation that you have met all the conditions of your offer by 31 August 2017. This deadline applies even if you have applied for deferred entry into September 2018. Unfortunately, if we have not received your marks by 31 August we may not be able to guarantee your place.

What happens next?

If you meet the condition(s) of your offer

  • If we are your FIRM choice:

UCAS will send you a confirmation letter and tell you to check UCAS Track for information. You will only need to contact us if you want to decline or defer your offer.

  • If we are your INSURANCE choice:

If you have met the conditions of your Firm choice offer, your place should be confirmed at your Firm choice university.

If you were unsuccessful at your Firm choice, but you meet the conditions of your offer from Sheffield, your place should be confirmed here. UCAS will contact you and tell you to check UCAS Track for further information. You will only need to contact us if you want to decline or defer your offer.

As soon as we have confirmed your place, we will send you a pre-arrival information pack, with full details of how to register and what to do before and during Intro Week (18–22 September).

If you do not meet the condition(s) of our offer

One of three things could happen:

  1. We may not be able to confirm your place.
  2. In some cases, subject to places being available, we may still be able to confirm your place. To check, please visit UCAS Track.
  3. Occasionally, we may be able to offer you a place on a different but related course (this is known as a Change of Course Offer). If so, the Admissions Tutor for the new course will contact you. To accept or decline this offer you simply need to log into UCAS Track within 5 days (after 5 days the offer will be declined by default). If you choose to decline the Change of Course Offer, you will then go either to your Insurance choice or into Clearing, depending on your circumstances.

If we are unable to confirm your place and we were your Firm choice of university, you may have a place with your Insurance choice. If neither of your places is confirmed, you will automatically enter Clearing. You can find information about this on the UCAS Clearing webpages.

If you have a query about your application before Monday 14 August 2016, please contact the Admissions Service in the usual way via our Applicant Information Desk.

A Level Results/Adjustment and Clearing Period (14 August to 23 August):

  • Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 August: The Admissions Service will be closed while we process exam results. We will therefore not be able to respond to enquiries on these days.
  • From Thursday 17 August: Please call our Confirmation, Adjustment and Clearing Helpline on +44 (0) 114 222 8015.

Accommodation

If you are due to start your course in September 2017, ideally you will have already applied for University accommodation. For Firm offer-holders, to meet our Accommodation Guarantee you need to have made Sheffield your Firm choice through UCAS by Wednesday 5 July and submitted your accommodation application by Monday 31 July. If you come to Sheffield as an Insurance student, or missed the 31 July deadline, you are also guaranteed accommodation, and you will be able to apply from Thursday 17 August, until Thursday 31 August.
