School of Languages & Cultures - Spanish Taster session
This online taster session will give you an insight into what it's like to study Spanish at university. You'll have the chance to hear from our academics, participate in a taster lecture and engage with current Languages undergraduates.

More than Magaluf: Prejudice, Persecution and Polemic on Mallorca
What does the Spanish Inquisition have to do with present-day Mallorca? How does the issue of insiders and outsiders play out across history and how can literature challenge dominant historical discourses? This talk looks at the case of the 'xuetes', descendants of converted Jews persecuted for centuries on Mallorca, and how a single novel helped to raise awareness internationally about what had for a long time been a taboo subject. We ask what it means to speak up for others and recognise that fake news is anything but new.
