How free are we to vary the grammar that we use?
When: Tuesday 30 March, 3:45pm - 5:00pm
Spaces available: 250

Can people choose how to speak? Does being working class mean you can’t help but use nonstandard grammar, or are we free to use language to develop styles and identities which transcend our place in the social hierarchy?
In this taster lecture, we'll think about the extent to which our social class determines the language we use and consider what other factors might affect how we speak.
