Collecting personal information with a web form

When creating web forms it's always important to remember that we have legal obligations in relation to the data we collect.

It's important to think about

  • how the data is stored
  • how long the data will be stored
  • what purposes the data will be used for
  • if those users can be considered reasonable
  • if the data is already being collected or could be obtained from another source e.g. CIS

It is important to keep-to-date and read all advice on Information Security provided by CiCS.

New CMS

When collecting form information in the new CMS you should use a Google form where possible or an email address.

Legacy CMS

The CMS 'Form template' allows you to create a simple web contact/feedback form within CMS. It's also possible to do something like this with the cPanel web hosting service.
