Find a supervisor
Once you know what you would like to study, it’s important to find a supervisor who is an expert in the area, and who can guide you through the three-year programme. This is the first step in the application process.
Our research interests extend chronologically from ancient history to contemporary history and geographically from Britain to the Middle East and from America to India. We cover a wide range of themes including society and culture, politics, religion, gender, the history of violence and peace research, the history of slavery and medical humanities.

Next steps
Once you have found a suitable supervisor, please email them directly to discuss your research proposal and to check their availability and willingness to support your application.
If you are planning on applying for funding, it is particularly important to start discussions with your potential supervisor as early as possible, giving you plenty of time to work on your ideas for the research project and get their advice on how to shape it into a strong proposal.
