Many of our academics are leaders in their fields of research and are much in demand for research collaborations. Our case studies showcase some of the groundbreaking research taking place in our school.
What is a PhD?
A PhD is the opportunity to delve into innovative research as part of the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering.
PhDs are designed to enhance your analytical skills and further your lab experience. You’ll also have the opportunity to teach, giving you valuable experience in disseminating information and boosting your communication skills.
To start a PhD, you should have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree in a relevant degree. You don’t need to have completed this degree at The University of Sheffield, though we encourage our current students to strongly consider furthering their studies with us!
Current projects
Please note the current projects shown are not a complete list, with supervisors more than happy to consider candidates for topics of their own choosing. If this is of interest, prior to applying, contact the appropriate supervisor on the list of research expertise to discuss your research topic.
Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT)
