Winners from the 2019 Engineering Researcher Symposium and Representative from Sheffield Flourish (charity supported in the cake bake)
The DO Fund gave me the opportunity ... to meet several distinguished academics, industrialists and researchers. It helped widen my network ... and led to further collaborations.
The Engineering Researcher Society (ERS) is a mutual body providing a VOICE for all early career researchers, including postdoctoral and contract research staff, across all departments within the Faculty of Engineering; providing Development Opportunities (DO) and also promoting a COMMUNITY for networking and socialising.

Our annual DO Fund initiative provides flexible bursaries available that can be used in a variety of ways to advance your professional development. Our seventh round ran in February 2019 and the eighth is planned for early 2020. In 2019, 8 of the 17 applications were funded, all that you need is an idea and to complete the short application, it's good experience for completing any type of competitive funding application.
We will co-organise another Engineering Researcher Symposium in June 2020. This provides an excellent opportunity to showcase research from across the faculty and offers the potential to generate useful contacts and find synergies between research areas. The 2019 symposium website gives an idea of what to expect.
