Arrival, Registration & Inductions


There are several things you will need to do upon your arrival in Sheffield:

  • Register with the University
  • Supervisor meeting: Arrange when you are to start with your supervisors and set a meeting date
  • Attend a registration event

Further information about registration and your first week in Sheffield can be found on the Students Services website. The website also has important information for new international students arriving in Sheffield.

If you are a cross-sessional student (i.e. not arriving in October) you will need to go to the Registry Office located on Level 6 of the Students' Union building to register.

Induction Meetings

Faculty induction

In early October and March each year the Faculty runs the Postgraduate Induction Course. You must attend this at the first available opportunity. 

Departmental induction

Each Department will also hold its own induction event. Please see your Department or School’s webpages for details.
If you are a cross-sessional student please visit your Department's PGR Tutor for an induction.

Research and Innovations Services

Each year around October there will also be a Doctoral Development Programme meeting is provided by the Research and Innovations Services. If you are unable to attend or are a cross-sessional student you can listen to the lecture via a podcast.
