Video Conferencing is a free service for staff that will help you to connect to people all over the world for meetings, collaborations and lectures.
We use a service called Vscene which allows users to connect with each other via many different ways. You can have unlimited Scheduled & Instant Meetings, up to 100 people join at once and can have dedicated virtual meeting spaces.
Users can connect in any combination of the ways listed below:
- IP/SIP Based Video Conference systems
- Web Browser
- Vscene Mobile app
- Skype for Business
- With Vscene you are able to share your screens, record sessions, share documents and use a virtual whiteboard for notes and ideas.
To schedule meetings you need a host account. Please note, you do not need a host account if someone else has set up the meeting. You are also able to invite people from outside the Uni as guests. Please click for more information.
To sign up for an account please visit http://app.vscene.net and click register now. Please remeber to use your work email address and select The University of Sheffield as your organistation. This will then need approving by us. We are checking regularly and will be activated ASAP (please note, these host accounts are only availible for the duration of the current situation.).
We have two dedicated Video Conference rooms available as well as the option to set up Video Conferences anywhere on campus.
The Chancellors Room
The Chancellors Room in Firth Court can seat up 16 people and has a dedicated Video Conferencing Unit as well as a large screen to view your meeting. This room has a PC which can be shared with external participants to display presentations, videos and more.
This room will need to be booked via room bookings before requesting a conference.
LG20 in Kroto can seat up to 10 people and has the same video conferencing unit in it as the Chancellors room. This room does not have a PC in it, but you can plug in your laptop via VGA or HDMI.
This room can be booked by us.
Desktop Video Conference
All members of staff can set up a video conference using Blackboard Collaborate. You will just need a computer, webcam and microphone, all of which are available to loan from us.
When it’s time for your meeting, all your attendees need to do is click on the link which you can provide them via email.
Up to 500 participants can join your meeting.
You will need to book a room in advance of this. Ideally it will have either a screen or projector in it to display your meeting.
We also have a range of webcams and microphones available for use. Please contact us with details about your meeting and we will be able to advise on what equipment is best.
