GB3D Type Fossils Online
The GB3D Type Fossils Online project, funded by JISC, aims to develop a single database of the type specimens, held in British collections, of macrofossil species and subspecies found in the UK (a 'type' is a specimen of an organism to which the scientific name of that organism is formally attached - that is, it is the example that defines the features of a particular organism). The database includes links to photographs and a selection of 3D digital models.
Contributors include British Geological Survey, Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences, Oxford University Museum of Natural History, Amgueddfa Cymru (National Museum Wales) and Geological Curators' Group.
Access is available directly from this page by connecting to the GB3D Type Fossils website - you'll be prompted to log in to MUSE as necessary.
