Key databases

The UK Data Service - Key economic and social data, including UK census data from 1971 to 2011. Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), it provides a unified point of access to data from Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS), Census Programme, Secure Data Service and others, including some international data sets.

The UK Data Archive - over 5000 datasets relating to contemporary and historical society with data acquired from the academic, public, and commercial sectors. UKDA also provides guidance and training on how to manage, store and share data.

UKDA is available to Internet users regardless of location and can be accessed directly from the above link. In addition, staff and students of the University of Sheffield can download data via the UK Data Service - this requires further registration and access via MUSE.

Statistical Information in print

At Western Bank Library on Level 2 at PER 310.5 there is an extensive collection of British censuses and older statistical publications, some from the 19th Century and early 20th Century
