Professional and Career Development Loans

The Professional and Career Development Loans (PCDL) scheme is now closed to new applicants. Students who start their course after March 2019 will not be able to use the loan to fund their studies.

Prospective students should refer to our Postgraduate Funding pages for information on other sources of funding.

PCDLs are commercial bank loans, worth between £300 and £10,000, that help pay for work-related learning. Before the scheme closed the Co-Operative Bank was the only loans provider.

If you are in receipt of a PCDL and you have any questions you should contact the National Careers Service, they can be contacted on 0800 100 900.

If you are due to register at the University before March 2019 and intend to use a PCDL to fund your course the University is required to complete two forms for you; one to confirm you have accepted your offer to study at the University and a "Course Start Notification Form" which can only be signed once you have registered with the University and obtained your UCard. Student Services Information Desk (SSID) can help you do this. Forms can be emailed to ssid@sheffield.ac.uk or posted/taken to SSID

The University's PCDL registration number is 10623.

Information regarding using your PCDL to pay your fees can be found on our Registration pages.

Members of staff with questions about PCDL funded learners within the University should contact Marie Hezseltine at m.hezseltine@sheffield.ac.uk.
