Crime Reduction and Safety Fortnight 2018

Sheffield is reported to be one of the safest large cities in the UK, but like any big city anywhere in the world it is not crime free.

From 24 September - 5 October 2018, University Security will be running their Crime Reduction and Safety Fortnight to raise awareness of how crime can affect students and the University community.

Joined by staff and students from across the University, Security Services will be out and about answering questions, giving out freebies and demonstrating the best ways to keep your property, your bike and yourself as safe as possible.

Visit the stand in the Diamond exhibition space every day from 10am-4pm. University Security staff and South Yorkshire Police will all be on hand to provide advice and to give out free personal attack alarms and other goodies.

They will also giving out free property marking and can advise you of how to register your valuables on the Immobilise National database. If property is registered on the Immobilise database, it means that it is traceable back to you if it is ever stolen.

Advice on how to keep your bike secure from thieves will also be on hand. Visit the Cycle Hut in the Arts Tower car park for cycle marking services and to purchase Gold secure rated locks at a special subsidised rate of £15. You can also pick these bike locks up at SSiD in the Students’ Union for the same price.

Crime Reduction and Safety Fortnight will also shed light on other important safety issues, including how to report a hate crime, how to stay safe online and road safety. Keep an eye on your inbox for more information about each of these issues, or follow @shefunistudents on Facebook and Twitter for more advice.

This is the 20th year Security Services have been running Crime Reduction and Safety Fortnight, working with the Students’ Union and partners across the city to bring you advice on all aspects of personal and property safety.
