Accessing our SU building

You can view accessibility information for the Students' Union and many other University buildings on the AccessAble website or on the free AccessAble App.

The AccessAble guide gives an overview of:

How to find us

Sheffield Students' Union is situated a short walk away from Sheffield City Centre. Located at the heart of the University Campus, the Students' Union building has good accessibility by foot, or car, bus, taxi and tram.

Travel

Taxi

There are taxi ranks at the railway station and beside the City Hall. The journey to the University takes between 5 to 10 minutes, and you should expect to pay about £5. Ask them to drop you at Bar One on Glossop Road.

Tram

You can catch the Supertram to the campus from Meadowhall, the railway station and the city centre. Both the blue route to Malin Bridge and the yellow route to Middlewood stop at the University. Walk up Hounsfield Road and turn left at the end. The Students' Union (where Foundry is located) is straight ahead.

Train

Sheffield is at the heart of the railway network. Regular services operate between Sheffield and London St. Pancras (from just over 2 hours), Birmingham (1.25 hours), Leeds (1 hour) Manchester (1 hour) and Nottingham (1 hour). You can plan journeys using the National Rail site.

There is a direct link from the railway station to the Sheffield Station Supertram stop

Airport

Nearby airports include Manchester Airport (less than 1 hour by train) and Leeds Bradford Airport (less than 1 hour by train), and Nottingham East Midlands (around 2 hours by train).

Car from M1, M18

Approach Sheffield on the M1 and leave the motorway at Junction 33, following signs along the dual carriageway A630/A57/A61 Parkway.

After entering the 40mph zone, turn right onto the Ring Road at Junction 1 – Cutlers Gate. Continue along the Ring Road following signs for 'University of Sheffield', 'Barnsley A61' and later 'Glossop A57', through Junctions 10, 9, 8 and 7.

At Junction 7 – Shalesmoor – turn left and continue uphill along the Ring Road, still following signs for 'University of Sheffield' and 'Glossop A57'. Continue along Netherthorpe Road to the next roundabout – Junction 6 – University Square.

Take the third exit for Brook Hill/Western Bank and then turn left down Clarkson Street, where you’ll find a Sheffield Q- Park. Tip: If you use contactless payment, scan your card when entering the car park so you don’t have to queue for payment when you return to your car.

Parking

We recommend using the Q-Park on Durham Road (S10 2JA) just over the road from the Students’ Union.

Tip: If you use contactless payment, scan your card when entering the car park so you don’t have to queue for payment when you return to your car.

You can also pre-book your parking at the Q-Park Multi-storey.
