Other requirements

  • For all the BA degrees, a minimum of GCSE Maths grade B or equivalent. International Baccalaureate candidates who do not have GCSE Maths need to achieve 4 in Standard of Higher Level Maths or 5 in Mathematical Studies.
  • A minimum of GCSE English grade C or equivalent. For alternative English language requirements see below.
  • At least two of the three A Levels must be in 'acceptable' subjects. The third can be in any 'acceptable in combination' subject, including General Studies. For more information see our guidance on acceptable A Level subjects.
  • Previous study of economics is not essential.

English language requirements

All students must have an approved English language qualification equivalent to at least GCSE English grade C. Acceptable ones include:

  • IELTS - 6.5 overall with at least 6 in each component
  • Internet-based TOEFL - 88 with at least 19 in Listening, 19 in Writing, 20 in Reading, and 22 in Speaking
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - 61 with at least 56 in each component
  • International Baccalaureate Standard or Higher Level English - grade 4
  • IGCSE First Language English - grade C
  • IGCSE English as a Second Language - grade B
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - grade C
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - grade C

Please note: For our dual degrees with French, German, Russian and Hispanic Studies we require IELTS 7.0 with at least 6.5 in each component, or equivalent.
