The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) confirmed ScHARR as the UK's most powerful department for health services research, with the largest volume of activity assessed as either world-leading or internationally excellent among institutions returned to the HSR panel.

The RAE panel recognised the esteem in which the School is held globally for excellence in health services research and evaluated the research environment as predominantly world-leading or internationally excellent.

ScHARR specialises in health services and public health research, and the application of health economics and decision science to the development of health services and the improvement of the public health. We employ around 200 multidisciplinary staff and attract in excess of £6 million per year in external support.

Excellence in Teaching

ScHARR concentrates on postgraduate teaching and has executive-quality teaching rooms, and a library and study area for student use. Surveys indicate that ScHARR has some of the most satisfied students in the University.

In particular, ScHARR delivers a teaching and learning portfolio based on research-based, international, multi-disciplinary and world-class curricula, in line with our research strengths. These curricula are designed to meet the needs of learners and employers in the UK and globally.

We have consistently increased our postgraduate student numbers year-on-year since 2003, while broadening our global reach, with 28 nationalities represented among our current students.
