Before proceeding to the Year in Industry (Year 2), a student must attain a satisfactory standard in a) Research skills for engineers, and b) Professional skills for engineering projects, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Head of Department.
In the event of failure in the Control Systems Project and Dissertation (ACS6200) at the first attempt, any resubmission is subject to the approval of the Board of Examiners.
A student must normally achieve a weighted mean grade of 50 or above in Year 1 in order to proceed to the Industrial Placement, progression being at the discretion of the Departmental Director of Learning and Teaching. A student who fails to progress may be permitted to become instead a student for the MSc in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering (ACST01).
A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement of at least 36 weeks in order to take ACS6130 Industrial Placement. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the Departmental Director of Learning and Teaching (or their designate). A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of MSc in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering (ACST01).
The ACS6130 Industrial Placement will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of MSc in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering (ACST01).
