A student will take unrestricted F4 Level units to the value of 20 credits.

In order to proceed to Level 2, a student must pass all Level 1 modules at first sitting, and attain a mean mark averaged across all Level 1 modules of not less than 59.5%. A student must also achieve satisfactory attendance at compulsory classes and meet deadlines for coursework in Level 1 modules. A student missing more than 2 classes without authorization, or missing 2 deadlines without authorization may only proceed at the discretion of the Head of Department. Students attaining a mean mark averaged across Level 1 Semester 1 modules of less than 59.5% will be advised to withdraw from the programme.

A student who fails to satisfy the requirements of regulation 1D above may be permitted by the Faculty to become a student for the degree of MBiolSci in Biology (APSU14).

Year 2

|
A student will spend the second session in attendance as a full-time student at an appropriate University in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the USA, Hong Kong or Singapore, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Head of Department, and conditional upon the progression criteria indicated below. During this period the student will take an approved biology programme of study deemed to be the equivalent of F5 units to the value of one hundred and twenty credits.
In addition, unit APS240 will be made available to students whilst studying abroad but will be assessed in Semester 1 of Level 3. Students are not permitted to take an equivalent module to APS240 at the partner University.

In order to proceed to Level 4 a student must achieve a weighted mean grade of not less that 59.5 at Level 2 (after conversion to the Sheffield mark scheme and approved by the examiners). The Examiners may in their discretion recommend that a student who obtains a grade of not lower than 54.5 in Level 3 be permitted to proceed to Level 4. A student must also be awarded one hundred and twenty credits at Level 3 and achieve a grade of not less than 65 in unit APS330 in order to be permitted to proceed to Level 4.

A student who fails to satisfy the requirements of regulations 5A or 5B above may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BSc in Biology (APSU13).
