Following first failure of any ARC unit, subject to the approval of the Board of Examiners, a student will be exempted from the provisions regarding the number of resit attempts in Regulations 36 and 39 of the General Regulations for first degrees. A student satisfying the Examiners in a subsequent examination will be awarded a bare pass grade in respect of that component. In the event that the grade achieved following a subsequent examination is lower than that achieved on a previous occasion, the higher grade will be awarded.
2C
A student must pass units ARC165, ARC126, CIV2100, CIV2200, MAS252, MAT2600 and CIV2501 to proceed to Level 3.
2D
A student must have been awarded 120 credits at level 2 and obtained a weighted mean grade of greater than or equal to 54.5 to proceed to Level 3. A student who does not fulfill these criteria will be transferred onto either (a) the MEng Structural Engineering with Architectural Studies (CIVU19) if a minimum of 100 credits have been awarded at Level 2 and a weighted mean grade of greater than or equal to 54.5 achieved, or (b) the BEng Structural Engineering with Architectural Studies (CIVU20) if the above criteria have not been met.

A student will take CIV395 Year in Industry before proceeding to Level 5. A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take CIV395 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the department's Year in Industry Tutor. A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the degree of MEng in Structural Engineering and Architecture (CIVU12).
4C
CIV395 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the department's Year in Industry Tutor. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the degree MEng Structural Engineering and Architecture (CIVU12).

For all students:
Following the failure of an ARC Semester 1 module, or CIV406, to the maximum value of ten credits taken at Level 5, a student will be allowed to resit the module within the same academic session in order to satisfy the programme's accreditation requirements.
7
For all students:
When the department has approved a Change of Status to transfer from a RIBA accredited programme to a programme that is not RIBA accredited, a student should be allowed to have their component marks for architecture modules averaged and any associated credits released. Students who benefit from this regulation whereby a module may be passed without all components being passed would not be eligible to transfer back onto the accredited course.

For all students:
A student must pass CIV4009 (Independent Research Project) at the first attempt in order to be eligible for the award of the Degree of MEng in Structural Engineering and Architecture with a Year in Industry (CIVU112). A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be awarded the Degree of BEng in Structural Engineering with Architectural Studies with a Year in Industry (CIVU120) but will be ineligible for the award of that Degree with Honours.

For all students:
A student must pass units ARC356, ARC327, ARC375, ARC378 and CIV406 in order to be eligible for the award of MEng in Structural Engineering and Architecture (CIVU12). A student must also achieve a grade of greater than or equal to 40 in CIV4181 or CIV61016, and CIV485 in order to be eligible for the award of MEng in Structural Engineering and Architecture with a Year in Industry (CIVU112). A student who fails to meet this requirement, but fulfills the general regulations in relation to First Degrees, may be permitted by the Faculty to be awarded the Degree of MEng in Structural Engineering with Architectural Studies with a Year in Industry (CIVU119) subject to clause 10 if applicable.

For students commencing Year 1 of a programme of study in or after September 2022:
A student who has been awarded credit in compensation of failed units in Years 2, 3 and 5 will be permitted an additional resit attempt in the compensated credits. An additional resit attempt can only be granted where the student has met the requirements for progression (or completion) under the General Regulations for First Degrees.
A student who has been awarded credit in compensation of failed units in Years 2, 3 and 5, where the grade achieved is more than 10% below the pass grade in those failed units, may not be recommended for a degree award that is accredited under Engineering Council rules.
A student who has been awarded more than 30 credits in compensation of failed units across Years 1, 2, 3 and 5, may not be recommended for a degree award that is accredited under Engineering Council rules.
A student who failed to pass CIV377 Construction Project Management may not be recommended for a degree award that is accredited under Engineering Council rules.
Where a student has met the requirements for the award of a degree under the General Regulations for First Degrees but not the requirements for the award of a degree accredited under Engineering Council rules, they may be recommended for the award of MEng Civil Engineering Technology with a Year in Industry.
