Following first failure of any ARC unit, subject to the approval of the Board of Examiners, a student will be exmpted from the provisions regarding the number of resit attempts in Regulations 36 and 39 of the General Regulations for first degrees. A student satisfying the Examiners in a subsequent examination will be awarded a bare pass grade in respect of that component. In the event that the grade achieved following a subsequent examination is lower than that achieved on a previous occasion, the higher grade will be awarded.

A student will take CIV395 Year in Industry before proceeding to Level 5. A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take CIV395 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the department's Year in Industry Tutor. A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the degree of MEng in Structural Engineering and Architecture (CIVU12).

CIV395 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the department's Year in Industry Tutor. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the degree MEng Structural Engineering with Architectural Studies (CIVU19).
