CIV1900 has a field course component.
A student must pass units CIV1000, CIV102, CIV1200, CIV150, CIV1900, MAS151, MAT1600 and FCE1001 to proceed to Level 2.
A student must normally achieve a weighted mean grade of 60 or above at Level 1 in order to continue as a student for the Degree of MEng in Civil Engineering with a Year in Industry (CIVU26), progression being at the discretion of the Board of Examiners. A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be permitted to become instead a student for either the Degree of MEng in Civil Engineering (CIVU16) or the Degree of BEng in Civil Engineering (CIVU17).
A student must pass units CIV2100, CIV2300, CIV2500 and FCE2001 to proceed to Level 3.

A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be permitted to become instead a student for either the Degree of MEng in Civil Engineering (CIVU16) or the Degree of BEng in Civil Engineering (CIVU17) subject to the regulations of these degree programmes.

A student must have been awarded a minimum of 110 credits, including unit CIV396, to proceed to Level 4. A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be permitted by the Faculty to be awarded the Degree of BEng in Civil Engineering (CIVU17) but will be ineligible for the award of that Degree with Honours.
A student will take CIV395 Year in Industry before proceeding to Year 5. A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take CIV395 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the department’s Year in Industry Tutor. A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of MEng Civil Engineering (CIVU16).
CIV395 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the department’s Year in Industry Tutor. The Year in Industry will be assessed on (a) written reflections on a skills-based placement journal; (b) two written reports; and (c) a post-placement presentation. No grades will be awarded for the Year in Industry which will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of MEng Civil Engineering (CIVU16).
A student must pass CIV4000 Individual Research Project or CIV4004 European-Based Individual Research Study at the first attempt in order to be eligible for the award of the Degree of MEng in Civil Engineering with a Year in Industry (CIVU26). A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be permitted by the Faculty to be awarded the Degree of BEng in Civil Engineering (CIVU17) but will be ineligible for the award of Degree with Honours.
