A student must pass COM3610 (Dissertation Project) at the first attempt in order to continue as a student for the degree of MComp in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science with a Year in Industry (COMU38). A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BSc in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science with a Year in Industry (COMU39) but will be ineligible for the award of the degree with Honours.

A student must normally achieve a weighted mean grade of 55 or above at Levels 1, 2 and 3 in order to proceed to the Year in Industry, progression being at the discretion of the Board of Examiners. A student who fails to progress may be permitted to become instead a student for the Degree of BSc Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (COMU117) or, at the discretion of the Board of Examiners, for the Degree of MComp Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (COMU119).

A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take COM390 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the Industrial Placement Officer. A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of MComp Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (COMU119).

COM390 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Studies. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of MComp Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (COMU119).
