COM390  Year in Industry ACAD YR 120 credits

4B

A student must normally achieve a weighted mean grade of 55 or above at Levels 1, 2 and 3 in order to proceed to the Year in Industry, progression being at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.  A student who fails to progress may be permitted to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng Software Engineering (COMU05) or, at the discretion of the Board of Examiners, for the Degree of MEng Software Engineering (COMU06).


4C

A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take COM390 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the Head of Department A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of MEng Software Engineering (COMU06). 


4D

COM390 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Head of Department. The Year in Industry will be assessed on (a) written reflections on a skills-based placement journal; (b) two written reports; and (c) a post-placement presentation.  No grades will be awarded for the Year in Industry which will be assessed on a pass/fail basis.  A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of MEng Software Engineering (COMU06).

A student must satisfy the requirements of the General Regulations for First Degrees as to progression in order to continue as a student for the Degree of MEng in Software Engineering with a Year in Industry (COMU42). A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng in Software Engineering with a Year in Industry (COMU43) or the Degree of BEng in Software Engineering (COMU05).
