a student can take unrestricted level 3 or 4 Engineering units to the value of 15 credits.

3C

A student who does not pass CPE321 (Process Design Project) at the first attempt will be ineligible for the award of the Degree with Honours.

Year 4

CPE320  Year in Industry ACAD YR 120 credits

4B

A student must normally achieve a weighted mean grade of 54.5 or above at Level 2 and Level 3 in order to proceed to the Year in Industry, progression being at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.  A student who fails to progress may be permitted to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng Chemical Engineering (CPEU02) or, at the discretion of the Board of Examiners, for the Degree of MEng Chemical Engineering with Nuclear Technology (CPEU18).


4C

A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take CPE320 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the Chemical and Biological Engineering Director of Learning and Teaching. A student who fails to obtain a suitable placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of MEng Chemical Engineering with Nuclear Technology (CPEU18).  A student will take CPE320 Year in Industry before proceeding to Level 5.


4D

A student will normally spend the Year in Industry between the third and fourth year of the degree programme. However, with the permission of the Head of Department the student may spend the Year in Industry between the second and third year of the degree programme.


4E

CPE320 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Chemical and Biological Engineering Director of Learning and Teaching. The Year in Industry will be assessed on a written report and a post-placement presentation.  No grades will be awarded for the Year in Industry which will be assessed on a pass/fail basis. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of MEng Chemical Engineering with Nuclear Technology (CPEU18).

Year 5

MAT6900  Advanced Nuclear Systems SPR SEM 15 credits

A student must pass CPE440 (Research Project) at the first attempt in order to be eligible for the award of Degree of MEng in Chemical Engineering with Nuclear Technology with a Year in Industry (CPEU28). A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be awarded the degree of BEng in Chemical Engineering (CPEU02).


7

A student must satisfy the requirements of the General Regulations for First Degrees as to progression in order to continue as a student for the Degree of MEng in Chemical Engineering with Nuclear Technology with a Year in Industry (CPEU28). A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng in Chemical Engineering (CPEU02).
