Year 1

A person may be admitted as a student who satisfies the admissions requirements of the University of Sheffield and the Nanjing University.

A student will register at Sheffield at the beginning of the programme of study as a student of both the University of Sheffield and the Nanjing University. A student will have appropriate access to the facilities of both Universities but will be required to attend at the University identified in accordance with the following Regulations.

A student will take at Nanjing University (during Semester 1), units to the value of sixty University of Sheffield (UoS) credits from the following:-

Introduction to Linguistics
English Grammar and Discourse
Language Teaching Methodology
Introduction to Second Language Acquisition

Approved These are on a restricted list of modules offered by your department(s). Normally you will need to select a minimum number of credits from the list. units (15 credits)

A student will take 15 credits from this group.

Semester 2
ELL635 + Available as an option module for students on the MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL only..	Research Dissertation Practice	SPR SEM	15 credits

ELL6021 + students enrolled on MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL (ELL T01) (full and part time) and ELL T09 (Nanjing pathway)..	TESOL Practice	SPR SEM	15 credits
ELL6199	World Englishes	SPR SEM	15 credits
ELL624	Teaching Writing in TESOL	SPR SEM	15 credits
ELL629 + EMPTY.	Vocabulary: Learning, Teaching and Testing	SPR SEM	15 credits
ELL6409 + Some previous language teaching experience is advisable.	Teaching English for Specific Purposes	SPR SEM	15 credits
ELL6411 + Research Methods core module on MA Applied Linguistics.	Language Testing	SPR SEM	15 credits

or 30 credits from above and up to 30 credits from the MA in English Language and Linguistics subject to the approval of the MA Programme Director.

Core These are a compulsory part of your degree: you cannot change them. units (60 credits)

ELL6600	Dissertation	SPR SEM	60 credits

A student who has been awarded the equivalent of one hundred and twenty University of Sheffield credits in respect of units listed at 3, 4i and 4ii above will be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics.
