MA Landscape Architecture (LSCT123)     FT

Year 1


1

The programme of study will be pursued for not less than two years.

There will be one examination:  Part I (units in group 1A) will be examined during the first session.  Part II (units in groups 2A, 2B and 2C) during the second session, and Part III (the unit in group 2D) shall be examined no later than September following the end of the second session.

A student who holds the Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Studies (LSCT125) or has studied or gained practical experience of aspects of Landscape Architecture and reached a standard in these areas satisfactory to the Faculty may be exempted by the Faculty from the first session of the programme of study and from such subjects of the examination as the Faculty may specify.

A student may be required to attend field courses as prescribed by the Head of Department (which may be held in vacations, including the vacation preceding the first year).

A student will pass in all of the subjects of Part I (units in group 1A) before entering Part II of the examination (units in groups 2A, 2B and 2C).  A student may be required by the Faculty to undertake not less than nine months of practical experience, approved by the Head of Department, of activities related to landscape practice prior to commencing studies for Part II (units in groups 2A, 2B and 2C).

A student who is awarded three hundred credits will pass the Examination for the degree of MA in Landscape Architecture.

A student who is awarded two hundred and forty credits will pass the Examination for the Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture (LSCT122).

 A student who is awarded one hundred and eighty credits will pass the Examination for the Postgraduate Certificate in Landscape Architecture (LSCT109).

A student who fails in any subject of Part 1 of the examination (units in group 1A) may be permitted by the Faculty to repeat the relevant subject on one further occasion by the beginning of September and the end of the first session.  A student who is unsuccessful in the re-sit examination may not proceed to the degree of MA but with the agreement of the examiners and approval of the Faculty may proceed to complete the requirements for the Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture.

A student who has successfully completed Part II (units in groups 2A, 2B and 2C) and who does not proceed to Part III of the examination (the unit in group 2D), may, on the recommendation of the Faculty, be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Landscape Architecture.  In exceptional circumstances a Diploma may be awarded with 230 credits at the discretion of the examiners.

In calculating the award with Merit or Distinction only the performance in Part II (the units in group 2A, 2B and 2C) and Part III (the unit in group 2D) will be considered.
