The Head of Department may, on the basis of a student's examination performance and in accordance with procedures approved by the Faculty, require a student who has taken the programme of study prescribed at Levels 1 and 2 to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng in Materials Science and Engineering (MATU05).

The Modern Languages Teaching Centre will assist the student in the selection of appropriate language units based on prior knowledge, language chosen and programme taken.

A student must satisfy the requirements of the General Regulations for First Degrees as to progression in order to continue as a student for the Degree of MEng Materials Science and Engineering (MATU06).  The Faculty may permit a student who fails to satisfy these requirements to become (a) at the end of Level 2 a candidate for the Degree of BEng Materials Science and Engineering (MATU05) or (b) at the end of Level 3 a candidate for the unaccredited degree BEng Materials Science and Technology. A student who fails the Research Project & Literature Review (MAT4356)  at Level 4 at the first attempt or who chooses to withdraw from the University at the end of Level 3 may be awarded the unaccredited degree BEng Materials Science and Technology.
