3B

A student must achieve a weighted mean grade of 55 or above at Level 1 and Level 2 in order to proceed to the Year in Industry, progression being at the discretion of the Head of Department. A student who fails to progress may be permitted to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng Materials Science & Engineering (MATU05).


3C

A student will be responsible for securing a suitable industrial placement in order to take MAT395 Year in Industry. The appropriateness of the placement will be determined by the Head of Department. A student who fails to obtain a placement will instead be required to become a student for the Degree of BEng Materials Science & Engineering (MATU05).


3D

MAT395 requires that a student will spend a minimum of 38 weeks working in an industrial establishment, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Head of Department. A student who fails to satisfy these requirements may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng Materials Science & Engineering (MATU05).

A student must pass MAT356 (Literature Survey and Project) at the first attempt in order to be eligible for the award of the Degree of BEng in Materials Science and Engineering with a Year in Industry. A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be awarded the Degree of BEng in Materials Science and Engineering (MATU05) but will be ineligible for the award of the Degree with Honours.
