Before proceeding to Level 3, a student will attain a satisfactory standard in MEC1000 Engineering Applications, the arrangements being subject to the approval of the Head of Department.
Students commencing Level 1 of a programme of study from session 2016-17 onwards must take FCE1001 Faculty Global Engineering Challenge Week as a core module. A student will be expected to pass the module in order to progress to Level 3. A student must pass the module in order to graduate.
Students commencing Level 2 of a programme of study from session 2012-13 onwards must take FCE2001 Interdisciplinary Project Week/Achieve More Project as a core module. A student will be expected to pass the module in order to progress to Level 3. A student must pass the module in order to graduate.
A student must pass MEC401 (Individual Project) at the first attempt in order to be eligible for the award of the Degree of MEng in Mechanical Engineering. A student who fails to satisfy this requirement may be awarded the Degree of BEng in Mechanical Engineering (MECU002).
A student must satisfy the requirements of the General Regulations for First Degrees in the Faculty of Engineering as to progression in order to continue as a student for the Degree of MEng in Mechanical Engineering (MECU001). A student who fails to satisfy these requirements, or chooses to withdraw from the University at Level 3, may be permitted by the Faculty to become instead a student for the Degree of BEng in Mechanical Engineering (MECU002). In this instance, in addition to satisfying the requirements of the General Regulations for First Degrees as to the Final Examination for the Degree of BEng in Mechanical Engineering (MECU002), the student must achieve a grade of 40 or above in the individual element of the Group Design Project (MEC307). A student who does not achieve a grade of 40 or above in the individual element of the Group Design Project (MEC307) at the first attempt will be ineligible for the award of the Degree with Honours.
