AMR207   Principles of Nuclear Engineering   (20 credits)

Description

This module will introduce students to atomic theory principles and describe the type of interactions which occur in modern nuclear reactors. Sources of radiation in nuclear power generation setting will be presented,, principles of calculating their decay given and methods for the protection against this radiation discussed. Principles of both nuclear fission and fusion will be explained as well as the principles of operation for a variety of nuclear reactor types. Finally, the role of nuclear power in the sustainable engineering mix will be presented and discussed.
