Description

This module introduces the fundamental principles, applications and analyses of the main manufacturing systems. A manufacturing system is a method of organising the transformation of raw materials into finished goods, using manual labour, machine tools and material handling systems, and range from handicraft and manual to fully automated systems. The type of system is generally dependent on production volume and product variety. The module will provide an overview of different manufacturing strategies and systems with which students can identify, evaluate and optimise their own workplace manufacturing system. Assessment will be through coursework (essay).
