Description

Since the enactment of the Human Rights Act, human rights law has become both politically topical and of increasing relevance to domestic legal practice. All departments of government, including Parliament, are now under a duty to respect fundamental human rights, and their compliance can be questioned by individuals in the courts. The module examines the interpretation and application of the HRA. It asks what has been its impact on the relationship between courts and other departments of government. It also explores the jurisprudence of courts regarding specific rights such as freedom of speech, personal liberty and economic equality.
