Minimum Criteria
Any student not meeting the minimum criteria is not considered, irrespective of performance elsewhere.
The criteria are explained via the link below, but please note that these include a minimum requirement of at least B grades (or equivalent) at A level maths and physics. Also, you must be registered for an MENG or be able to demonstrate you will be doing a suitable MSc after a BENG.

Timescales
Interviewing may continue up until February/March, while there are still vacancies, but you would be advised to apply as soon as possible, certainly before end of November.
Feedback from some previous placement students
Darren Williams thought the 10 week placement at Derby site was excellent. He experienced interesting and genuine work with hands on problems. He participated as a regular employee and was made to feel welcome. He recommends it and is intending to reapply.

"Working at Rolls-Royce was an excellent experience. As part of the Trent 1000 System Test Team (to be used on the Boeing Dreamliner!), my responsibilities included designing and implementing updates on Matlab, which are used to analyse and validate test data from the real time test rigs. The work atmosphere at Rolls-Royce was quite informal, and I was taken seriously which motivated me even more. I finally got a chance to use my knowledge from university in a practical situation. "During the 10 weeks internship, I worked with the Trent 800 Engine Health Monitoring System (EHM team). My task was to build an Engine Trending and Capture system model. I needed to read quite a number of technical reports to understand the functions of the system and after that discussions were needed with systems engineers and software engineers to make sure we have the same understanding of the model. I did sharpen my technical skills during the 10 weeks, but apart from this, I grew in the understanding that, as an engineer, interpersonal skills are as important as professional skills. I learned how to communicate with people from different departments and how to achieve a goal when working with others."

"My 10 weeks internship in Rolls-Royce was an excellent experience and opportunity to use academic knowledge in the real world problems. As a member of Product Family which was working on Trent 1000, I was designing a UML Class Diagram of the HMU (Hydro Mechanical Unit), performing DMCS Modelling (Development and Management of Complex Systems) of the environment and capturing the requirements of the Fuel System. It was a best chance for me to improve my technical skills and communication skills at the same time. It was great to find many friends from different Universities working for different departments. I Highly recommend students to go for it as it will be one of the best industrial experiences."
