Led by its Director, Jo Purves, Global Engagement is made up of three teams engaging in international activities:

International Recruitment

Colleagues in International Recruitment lead on attracting overseas fee paying students and are responsible for the following areas:

  • Recruitment of full fee paying international students via in-country and inward visits
  • Management of a network of overseas agents
  • Guidance for academic departments on international recruitment strategies
  • Liaison with overseas sponsors
  • Liaison with pathways feeders such as University of Sheffield International College (USIC) and Northern Consortium UK (NCUK)
  • Advice on international qualifications
  • Advertising and profile raising of the University of Sheffield internationally via digital advertising

Partnerships and Global Opportunities

Colleagues in Partnerships and Global Opportunities support and deliver the aims and objectives of the internationalisation strategy. The team also facilitates student exchanges and manages summer school opportunities for Sheffield students. Core areas of work include:

International Partnerships:

  • Provide advice and guidance on international educational opportunities to academic and professional services staff, and develop and support institutional agreements with peer institutions worldwide
  • Manage the University‚Äôs membership of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) and its activities
  • Manage and support staff mobility
  • Organise and support incoming and outgoing international institutional level visits
  • Responsible for the arrangement of bilateral agreements for the Erasmus+ programme and management of University-wide agreements under Study Abroad
  • Work closely with Faculty Internationalisation Leads to develop tailored overseas partnerships including MoU development and processing
  • Liaise with colleagues from across the University to ensure an holistic approach to international activities

Global Opportunities and Exchanges

  • Management of the University's two primary exchange programmes, Study Abroad Programme and Erasmus+, and summer schools for Sheffield students
  • Management of the staff teaching and training mobility element of Erasmus+
  • Responsible for fee-paying Study Abroad Programme students
  • Management and administration of Erasmus+ grants to all eligible outgoing Sheffield students and staff
  • Monitoring and co-ordination of the nominations and applications of all incoming exchange students under both schemes
  • Management of the application process for all outgoing Study Abroad students
  • Provision of materials and support to academic departments to promote the exchange programmes and summer schools to prospective and current students
  • Management of Study Abroad scholarships for inbound and outbound students
  • Management of Global Opportunities Ambassadors scheme
  • Organise and run the Global Opportunities & Exchanges Fair
  • Lead on the Your Global Sheffield initiative
