International Advanced Workshop on the Seismo-Electromagnetic Studies

Sheffield researchers Professor Oleg Pokhotelov (Chair), Professor Michael Balikhin, and Dr Viktor Fedun together with colleagues from The UNiversity of Bari and The Laboratoire de Physique et Chimie de l'Environnement et de l'Espace (LPC2E) have established a workshop to study a variety of aspects releated to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

The workshop, scheduled to take place in September, will cover observations, theory, and modelling, and treat the entire lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere domain as one system, rather than treating each region independently.

Topics may include:

• Electromagnetic emissions associated with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions
• Electric and magnetic field variations and related phenomena connected with seismic and volcanic activity
• Laboratory and field experiments and simulated origin of seismogenic emissions
• Satellite observations of seismogenic phenomena and perspective methods
• Theoretical models of lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere interactions
• Gelio- and coronal seismology
