The IOM3 Awards Panel presents this to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the industrial application of materials. In Richard's case, this contribution has been in the field of steelmaking, work done on various IOM3 committees and conferences, including chairing the steel division for 5 years, and being part of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Sheffield since 2003.
This award is all the more meaningful for Richard as previous winners include two of his friends and mentors Roger Grimes at Imperial College and Adrian Normanton from Tata Steel.
Richard will formally be presented with his award in December.
