Research Ethics

In 2005 the University instituted a new ethics review system for ethical review of research. This does not affect most research carried out by members of the Department of Biblical Studies as it only affects research involving human participants or their data or tissue.

Ethics Review Panel

The Ethics Review Panel in the Department is responsible for approving research proposals which involve human participants or their data or tissue.

How to Apply

Applications should be made on the University's standard application form which is available to download from the Research Office. An information sheet and a consent form are also available for download

The initial review will be undertaken within 2 months of receipt of the application. The timescale for subsequent reviews will depend on the complexity of any amendments required.

Under the University procedures, projects are to be reviewed by a minimum of three reviewers who are independent of the research. Professor Hugh Pyper will be responsible for appointing the panel.
