Green Impact is an environmental accreditation and awards scheme, working across UK students’ unions, universities, colleges and community organisations, they work with teams to enable and showcase positive changes in environmental practice. They work within more than 100 unions and 50 universities and colleges, they support work from recycling, to investing in more efficient equipment, to encouraging biodiversity, or Fairtrade, the various criteria cover a broad range of issues under the sustainability umbrella, all tailored to an individual institution to cover local policy and processes, including links to online resources, relevant policies, schemes and events. For more information about Green Impact and their work visit the website www.green-impact.org.uk and visit our University Green Impact Team web pages.

As part of the Bronze award The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Green Impact Team, led by Rachael Elder, identified our top 10 greening opportunities, set up green impact notice boards, encouraged double sided printing & photocopying, encouraged recycling and waste reduction, encouraged energy awareness (the energy fairy visited twice - if people had turned off their computers, monitors, printers etc over the weekend then they were left a tasty treat!) and encouraged green travel (cycling, public transport directions for visitors). The department are hoping to work towards our silver award over the coming year and become a greener department still!
