The School of English warmly invites you to come to an open day. This will give you a chance to meet staff and current students, hear about the range of courses and degrees we offer, and find out what it would be like to study here with us. There are two kinds of open days: University open days that take place in the summer months and post-offer English open days that take place in spring. A general University open day lets you get a feel for what living and studying in Sheffield is like. The post-offer open days allow you to find out more about the particular degree you have applied to study.
University Open DaysThe University open days let you explore life at the University of Sheffield. You can learn about accommodation, finance, sports facilities and life at our award winning Students' Union. Our campus tours allow you to visit our library, sports centre and Students' Union, while you can also have a look around the city; the University is a 10 minute walk from the centre and forms a major part of the city's vibrant, friendly atmosphere. We also offer a series of talks in the School of English. After a general welcome and introduction, you can find out more about the degrees we offer in English Literature, English Language and Linguistics, English Language and Literature, English and Theatre, and Theatre and Performance. There will also be information provided on the wide range of dual degrees available. You will hear from staff and our current students, and get the chance to chat with them informally over refreshments. |
Post-Offer Open DaysIf you receive an offer for one of our degrees then we will invite you to come to a post-offer open day. This will give you an opportunity to form a detailed impression of what it is like to study with us. You will find out about the content and structure of your degree, the teaching and support you will receive, and why taking a degree in English is your first step to a fantastic future. You will also hear more about the accommodation on offer, and will be able to go on both accommodation and campus tours if you wish. As at the University open days, you will get the chance to chat informally with our current students, who can give you a first-hand perspective on their experience in the School of English. Booking your place at an open day
If you have received an offer we will send an email inviting you to attend a post-offer open day. This email will include instructions and a Personal ID code, which you will need in order to book your place.
