Welcome to new students in Hispanic Studies!
Hello and welcome to the Department of Hispanic Studies. We hope you´ve had a good summer and, for those of you who have just completed your A Levels, congratulations on your results. Our staff look forward to meeting you here on the second floor of Jessop West during Intro Week in September and to working with you over the next four years.

What can I expect in Intro Week?
There will be many activities and meetings for you to attend during Intro Week. Here you will find an outline of what you can expect in our department during your first week. But there will be additional meetings for you to attend, of which the University will have notified you. Here is an overview:

- Friday 25 September – First meetings for students taking Spanish will take place in Arts Tower, LT6 (Advanced stream) and Arts Tower LT3 (Beginners’ stream), from 1.00 – 2.00.
- Friday 25 September – Hispanic Studies course quiz, to introduce you to the areas you’ll have the chance to study in your first year and beyond, in LT6 from 2-3.
- Also, if you are combining Hispanic Studies with another subject, you can expect to have scheduled information meetings organised by your other department too.
What will be covered during these meetings?
The intro meetings will serve a number of purposes. The department meetings on Monday will ensure that you´ve met the department staff and your fellow students. You´ll also sign up for your core modules and have a chance to ask questions. At open module enrolment on Tuesday and Wednesday you can add extra modules to fill out your schedule, make changes to it or ask us questions.
Feel free to approach students and staff in Hispanic Studies for information and to ask questions. We know that Intro Week with all its meetings and information can be a confusing time and we want you to know that we will be there to help and assist if necessary.
What can you do now?
If you want to know more about your course in the First Year you can download a copy of the Hispanic Studies Level One Student Handbook (downloadable pdf file on the right hand side of this page), with full details of your courses and how the Department is organised. Please save or print this handbook and read it. The handbook also contains your First Year reading lists. Now is a good moment to begin some preparatory reading for your courses, either of the texts themselves or, if these are not readily available where you live, then of any useful related material you have access to.
Downloadable .PDF files for the Advanced and Beginners' Programmes are on the right hand side of this page.
