Launch of the Sheffield Centre for Early Modern Studies (SCEMS)
The Sheffield Centre for Early Modern Studies (SCEMS) launches this week (15 April 2013) with a series of public lectures and master classes.
The University of Sheffield's new centre brings together over 30 academics specialising in the early modern period (1500-1800), one of the largest communities of early modernists in the world.

New History Matters Blog brings research to life
In December, as the media shrieked about the impending Maya apocalypse, the History Department defied the end of the world and injected a note of sanity into proceedings by launching their new History Matters blog with a series of articles on apocalypticism. A collective blog, written by Sheffield historians (staff, students, alumni and friends), History Matters features cutting-edge research and the history behind the headlines, and shows why history really matters.
