How to Apply?

Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is the name used for education funded by regional NHS Strategic Health Authorities to provide non-medical and NHS professionals with courses and modules (subject to their eligibility). The aim is to provide healthcare staff with education courses that are *a key priority for the workforce delivery of their respective Trust*.

You are required to apply for LBR Funding from your LBR Lead if you work in the NHS in South Yorkshire or East Midlands. Your organisation will have a LBR application process which you will need to follow in consultation with your Line Manager and LBR Lead to gain approval for your application.

There are different application processes depending on what you are applying for:

  1. Accredited units/modules
  2. Non-accredited study days
  3. Postgraduate courses

A. Accredited units/modules

Please note all correspondance for module applications will be sent via email, please check your account regularly.

1. Application

  1. Select a unit from our range at www.sheffield.ac.uk/hsccpd
  2. Click on “Apply” on the right-hand side of the page
  3. Complete the on-line application form
  4. Submit the application form
  5. A message will appear on screen acknowledging submission of application
  6. Within 7 days of submitting this you will receive an email with further details

2. Approval

Within 7 days of placing  your application you will receive  1 or 2 emails; if you are a new student you will receieve an email with your applicant number in and another with a fees and funding form attached, if you are a continuing student you will just receive one email with your fees and funding form attached as you can use your current registration number.

  1. Download the fees and funding form either from the email attachment or from the link on the right-hand side of this page
  2. Complete the fees and funding form making sure you enter details about your choice of unit and level of study
  3. If you are to be funded through LBR Funding, send your form to your LBR Lead to sign
  4. If you are self-funding, please enter fee on form. If you are unsure how much the fee is, please contact our office (details below)
  5. If you are sponsored please select this option and submit a sponsor letter on headed paper with the form 
  6. Send the fees and funding form to: (within 4 weeks)

3. Registration

Your place will be confirmed on the course once your fees and funding form has been received, an email will be sent to you in receipt of this. An offer email with the course starter details on, will be sent to you between 5-8 weeks before the course is due to start. In some cases you may be required to provide further information to support your application and registration on courses that lead to an academic award.

If you are a new student or starting on a new course you will be sent an email with pre-registraion activities to complete before you commence your course, you must do these to comply with Univeristy Regulations. If you do not receive this email please contact preregistration@sheffield.ac.uk. It is essential to complete the pre-registration steps that activate your university computer account, upload your Ucard photograph and enable your full registration.

 If you are a continuing student please access the registration link through MUSE. Please note that continuing students may not have to register if they have already studied a course within the same financial year.

Once you have registered your Ucard will be made and given to you in class or posted to your home address. You must be registered before you can get a Ucard.

B. Non-accredited study days

Please note all correspondance for study day applications will be sent via email, please check your account regularly.

1. Application

  1. Select a study day from our range at www.sheffield.ac.uk/hsccpd
  2. Click on “Reserve a place” on the right-hand side of the page
  3. Complete and submit the on-line form
  4. Download an application form from the right-hand side of this page

2. Approval

  1. Complete the application form 
  2. Organise approval signatures from Line Manager/LBR Lead/sponsor as necessary
  3. Arrange payment of fee if self-funding (contact our office for more information - details below) 
  4. Send the form back to us (within 4 weeks) at:

3. Confirmation of place

When we receive your application form, we will send you an email to confirm your place. You will receive an offer email with starter details 5 weeks before the study day will take place. Please note that your place will not be confirmed until we receive your application form with any necessary approvals.

C. Postgraduate courses

Please note all correspondance for postgraduate applications will be sent via email, please check your account regularly.

Information about applying for postgraduate courses via our CPD website is available on individual course webpages. If you are funded by the NHS within Souht Yorkshire or East Midlands areas, you must have your application approved by your Line Manager and LBR Lead (Who is my LBR Lead?).
