A student helping out at an open day

Open Days

There are two types of Open Day that give you an opportunity to see what is on offer at Sheffield.

University Open Days

University Open Days – before you make an application. These are university-wide events that aim to give you a taster of university life in Sheffield and a chance to go to presentations on accommodation and finance as well as subject specific information. We give an hour long presentation in collaboration with Architecture. University Open Days take place during the summer months.

Landscape Open Days

Department Open Days – after you make an application. If, after receiving your application, we are considering making you an offer we will invite you to a department open day. These are held during university term time between November and March. During the day you will have the chance to:

Interviews are important as they allow us to gain a better understanding of the range of skills and interests of applicants beyond their predicted grades. Our impression of applicants at the interview stage can inform our selection process in two ways. First, whether we make you an offer (conditional or unconditional). Second, if you have a conditional offer and just miss the grades required, we may make a decision whether to confirm the offer based on the interview.

Because of this, we expect all UK-based applicants to make all practical effort to attend a Department open day and interview. If this is not possible, or the applicant lives overseas, we might arrange for a telephone interview, and / or ask the applicant to submit a selection of their portfolio by post. We hope to be able to provide the facility for the digital submission of portfolios for overseas students in the near future.
