Symposium - Falling Crime Rates: Causes and Consequences
A Modern Law Review Symposium
11 October 2013
On 11 October 2013, the School of Law at the University of Sheffield will convene a special symposium to understand the causes and consequences of falling rates of crime. Key measures of crime—police statistics and victimisation surveys—show that crime rates have fallen from the 1990s. In the UK and USA, there is less crime now than there was 30 years ago. Similar trends have take place in other countries suggesting was may be experiencing a ‘global crime drop’.
Who is the Symposium for?
The symposium is open to professionals and academics. We welcome those responsible for planning, administrating and delivering aspects of criminal justice, who are interested the interpretation of crime data, understanding crime trends, or the relationship between levels of crime and the administration of crime policy. We welcome academic researchers from law, criminology, socio-legal studies, political science, sociology and other fields interested in the measurement of crime, comparative research, or the relationship between research and public policy.
