Mechanical Engineering Tutor Wins Academic Award

Elena Rodriguez-Falcon, a senior university teacher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been named ‘Personal Tutor of the Year for Engineering’ at the 2011 Academic Awards.

The awards, which are organised by Sheffield Students’ Union, were established this year to celebrate excellence in teaching and student support, and students were asked to nominate members of staff who they felt had a positive impact on their learning experience. 

Elena's award recognises her hard work as first year tutor for Mechanical Engineering and her commitment to helping students get the most from their time at university. She was particularly praised for encouraging students to take part in extra-curricular activities.

Elena said: “Receiving recognition for doing what you love is just amazing but receiving recognition from students, your students, is very humbling and an absolute honour.”
