University of Sheffield Scholarships
The University of Sheffield invests heavilly in the development of our postgraduate community. University Schemes are listed below. The central scholarship scheme for PhD funding at Sheffield for 2017/18 is now open with a scholarship application deadline on Wednesday 1st February at 17.00. Please note that some departments, particuarly in the Pure and Medical Sciences, may have separate deadlines for PhD projects applications. You should contact your intended department as soon as possible to check the application process and timeline.
These scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis - applications are assessed on the basis of academic success and qualifications, experience, research background, a clear well-articulated research proposal, the potential impact of the research and a good match with supervisor/ departmental/ faculty expertise.

The closing date for these University schemes is Wednesday 1st February at 17.00. Late applications will not be accepted in any circumstances.
Applications for entry are now open via the postgraduate application system.
The University also directly funds project specific scholarships including the University Research Resource Scholarship and A*STAR research attachments. When available these projects will be advertised in the Projects Directory.
Research Council Scholarships
The UK Research Councils are a major source of financial support for research postgraduates. Applications for most Research Council Scholarships are made through the University, either through a central process or via the academic department. Applications for the AHRC White Rose College of Arts and Humanities must be made direct to WRoCAH.

Other Funding Bodies
Many charities, foundations and trusts provide funding for postgraduate study, from small grants to full scholarships. Some are for specific subjects area while others have more general eligibility criteria.
