This course is for dental professionals and social scientists. It offers an opportunity to develop skills in social and behavioural sciences as applied to the mouth, dentistry and oral health. Enhancing your research skills is an important element of the course.

Our oral and dental research is organised into two themes: Person Centred and Basic and Applied. Each theme has three research groups: Bioengineering and Health Technologies, Person Centred and Population Oral Health Research, and Integrated Bioscience. Facilities

We're connected to Sheffield's Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, part of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You'll complete your clinical training in the hospital.

Our links with the hospital give you access to modern clinical facilities and equipment. There are 150 dental units with facilities for treatment under sedation, a well-equipped dental radiography department, oral pathology laboratories and a hospital dental production laboratory.

We also have purpose-built research and service laboratories and equipment. There’s a core facility for cell and tissue culture and labs for microbiology, electron microscopy, histology, histochemistry and immuno-cytochemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, proteomics and materials science.
