About

Many people find it difficult to understand health information. This can lead to poorer health. It is important health workers can communicate information clearly. This is so people using health services can understand it and know what to do.

This project aims to improve health workers communication skills. We want to see if this can improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities.

In this project health workers from two different services will receive training. The training will teach them three communication techniques:

  • Simple language
  • Teachback
  • Chunk and check

They will also receive support from a Health Literacy Officer. This is to help them use the new skills in their practice.

We will collect data from staff and service users before and after staff have been trained. This will help us understand if the training works and if outcomes improve.
